Towards the horizon

Wed 07/11/2018 19:00 - 21:00
Tickets: 37.00-7.00 €

Introduction

The energetic humour of Ludwig van Beethoven meets the English spirit of Edward Elgar in this concert of two great compositions. The evening’s soloist is Jeremy Denk, an American pianist and author who is already familiar to audiences of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Having risen from the “El Sistema” music system of Venezuela to the world’s concert stages, Domingo Hindoyan arrives at last in Helsinki.

This year Helsinki is hosting the Nordic Music Days, from 7th to 10th of October. The festival, founded in 1888, is one of the world’s oldest ongoing music festivals. It is administered by the Nordic Composers Council with each of the Nordic countries taking turns to manage the festival’s practical arrangements. Nordic Music Days serves as platform for international exchange between ensembles, musicians and repertoires in order to spread the music of Nordic composers. More than 40 composers are featured this time, with artistic leadership by composer Osmo Tapio Räihälä and the theme "Diversity is Unity".
