The Miraculous Mandarin, suite

Béla Bartókin skandaalinkäryisen Ihmeellisen mandariinin tapahtumat sijoittuvat lihallisten ilojen palvelutaloon keskellä paheellista betonihelvettiä, jossa ihmishengen arvo mitataan taskurahassa. Parkkiintuneiden rikollisten juonet kokevat äkkikäännöksen, kun ovelle ilmestyy varakas kiinalainen, mystisiä voimia omistava mandariini. Kohokohtia vilisevän konsertin solistinumerona kuullaan Bernhard Ganderin taatusti mieleenpainuva Dirty Angel.

“The Miraculous Mandarin” is a one act pantomime ballet that caused a scandal by depicting a brothel in a concrete hell where the value of human life is counted in pocket money. The plans of three seasoned criminals are turned on their head when a wealthy Chinese man – a Mandarin – with mystical powers appears at the door. The music climaxes with the unforgettable Dirty Angel for solo flugelhorn, solo accordion and orchestra by Bernhard Gander.
