Richard Wagner: Alkusoitto ja Venusvuori oopperasta Tannhäuser / Bernd Alois Zimmermann: "Nobody knows de trouble I see" konsertto trumpetille ja orkesterille / Hans Rott: Sinfonia nro 1

Compositions can also take a political stance, as musical pioneer Bernd Alois Zimmermann did during the height of racial discrimination. Håkan Hardenberger has been described as one of the greatest trumpeters in the world, an accolade supported by his performance of the concerto for trumpet and orchestra with its Afro-American styles. The evening’s symphony is a rare gym: Hans Rott composed only one major orchestral piece before his premature death at the age of just 25, yet it revolutionised the concept of a symphony and was praised by the likes of Bruckner and Mahler.
