Aleksi Malmberg for HPO's General Manager
Aleksi Malmberg appointed General Manager of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra
A new General Manager has been appointed for the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra: M.Phil. Aleksi Malmberg (37). The Culture and Leisure Committee of the City of Helsinki took the decision at its meeting today.
Aleksi Malmberg will take over as General Manager of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra on 1 January 2018.
“I cannot imagine a more inspiring field of work right now. I am especially pleased to have the chance to work together with the members of the orchestra and Chief Conductor Susanna Mälkki. At the heart of everything the orchestra does as an art institution is music, and I hope the music will continue to attract the people of Helsinki around it. I believe that the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra has an important role to play not only with our hometown, but also as part of the international music community,” Malmberg comments.
Malmberg has served as Director of the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux in Brussels since 2014, prior to which he was Programme Director for the Helsinki Festival, Executive Director of Our Festival (Meidän Festivaali), Managing Director of the music publishing and production company Tactus, and Managing Director of the Tapiola Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Gita Kadambi, the current Managing Director of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, will take over as General Director of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet at the start of 2018.
