The Encounters Club is open to all and free of charge

The popular Encounters Club is an arena for creative ideas and surprising encounters with performances by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra’s musicians and friends. The Encounters Club is open to all and free of charge, and it takes place on Fridays around once a month in the main foyer of the Helsinki Music Centre.

Free admission – welcome! The programme begins at 9pm after the evening’s concert, and the café is open until 10:30pm.

Breath, motion, sound
Friday 7 February 2020, 9pm, Helsinki Music Centre, Main Foyer

The evening programme explores the synergy between breath, motion and sound. We need breath in order to achieve motion and sound, whether in dance, music or life in general. In this performance, a dancer and a string quartet express this synergy in different ways.

Linkolaa!
Friday 6 March 2020, 9pm, Helsinki Music Centre, Main Foyer

Linkolaa!-ensemble
Hildegunn Øiseth, trumpet and goat horn
Maija Linkola, violin
Elina Viitasaari, violin
Lotta Poijärvi, viola
Markus Hohti, cello and electronics

In this concert by the Linkolaa!-ensemble, a string quartet is joined by a rare traditional instrument with a truly timeless sound – the goat horn. This unprecedented line-up transports listeners to the hits of Jukka Linkola’s big band, to which the Norwegian natural horn artist and jazz trumpetist Hildegunn Øiseth adds her own unique touch.

Linkola’s big band pieces are framed by his rhythmic String Quartet, which debuted in 1996. This concert offers wild and joyful memories from the 1990s, as well as completely new Linkola music once again!
