Esa-Pekka Salonen to conduct HPO this November

Esa-Pekka Salonen to conduct the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra this November

American conductor Leonard Slatkin was scheduled to conduct the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra’s concerts on 11-12 November 2020. Unfortunately, Slatkin has been forced to cancel his European tour due to the ongoing pandemic. He will be replaced as conductor of these HPO’s concerts by Esa-Pekka Salonen. The second of the two scheduled concerts will be livestreamed on the HKO Screen website and mobile app.

The switch in conductors has necessitated small changes to the programme. The Brahms Serenade will be replaced by Maurice Ravel’s Ma mère l’oye ballet suite for orchestra. The concerts will open with Tan Dun’s Water Concerto featuring solo percussionist Colin Currie.

Salonen last conducted the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in 2010 during the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm.
