Iida Turpeinen and the Klimatkvartetten string trio join forces for the “Journey of the Sea Cow” club for a concert blending music and spoken word. Turpeinen reads excerpts from her highly acclaimed novel Beasts of the Sea (S&S, 2023) and joins Klimatkvartetten as a fourth member for the performance. Beasts of the Sea is a breathtaking adventure spanning three centuries. It approaches the subject of biodiversity through the fates of individuals, telling a story of grand human ambitions and the desire to resurrect what humanity, in its ignorance, has destroyed.
Interspersed with the readings, music will be performed by composers such as Ida Moberg, Sebastian Fagerlund and Aulis Sallinen, alongside a world premiere commissioned from composer Outi Tarkiainen for Klimatkvartetten.
This Encounters Club is part of the Klimatkvartetten concert series, where classical music meets climate science and nature conservation efforts. Through bold interdisciplinary collaborations, the trio transforms its concerts into meeting points for the arts, research and environmental action. The core trio – violinist Terhi Paldanius, violist Ulla Knuuttila and cellist Joanna Hanhikoski – is joined by a rotating fourth member, such as a climate scientist, composer, author or musician.
Free admission – welcome! The programme begins at 9pm after the evening’s concert, and the café is open until 9:45pm.
Yes, but only before or after the concert. During the concert we just want you to enjoy the music. This way you won’t disturb the musicians or other audience members.
Only the orchestra has a dress code. You can dress as you like.
