The popular Encounters Club is an arena for creative ideas and surprising encounters with performances by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra’s musicians and friends.
For decades, right up until the 1980s, the musicians of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra would pack up their instruments after a concert, swap their tailcoats for tuxedos and head to Helsinki's nighttime dance restaurants to perform. The Philharmonic Pop Strings, founded by Arthur Fuhrmann, continues the salon orchestra tradition by performing at our next Encounters club in the Musiikkitalo foyer. The programme includes a selection of light music recorded in Finland in the 1950s that have remained the most played songs by dance orchestras all the way into the 21st century.
Free admission – welcome! The programme begins at 8 p.m. after the evening’s concert, and the café is open until 9:30 p.m.
