Andrés Segovia as soloist with the HPO
Historia
Andrés Segovia (1893–1987) of Spain, something of a father figure in classical guitar, played the Guitar Concerto by Castelnuovo-Tedesco as the soloist with the HPO. He had got to know the composer in Italy in the 1930s and Castelnuovo-Tedesco dedicated a number of works to him. Segovia had already performed in Helsinki a few times before. In 1951, Heitor Villa-Lobos, who had also conducted the orchestra, dedicated his Douze études of 1928 to Segovia.
