Ottorino Respighi guest conducts the HPO

Historia

A host of guest conductors appeared with the HPO during Georg Schnéevoigt’s term. In autumn 1933, the visit to Helsinki of composer-conductor Ottorino Respighi was a veritable sensation. On 13th October 1933 he conducted the orchestra in a concert of his own works, such as the Piano Concerto and The Pines of Rome. Seated in the audience were Jean Sibelius and his brother-in-law Armas Järnefelt.
