Suite mignonne & Valse lyrique (cond. Karl Ekman)

Historia

The concert on 6th April 1922 conducted by Karl Ekman consisted of the Hebridean Symphony by Granville Bantock, some operatic arias by Puccini, and the first performance of the little suite by Sibelius for two flutes and strings and the “lyrical waltz” originally for piano. That little by no means signifies easy, as was evident from Heikki Klemetti’s review in Uusi Suomi: “The gentlemen had just treated these delightful little gems in possibly too popular a vein. For rhythmically, they are remarkably difficult…”
