Esittely

Chamber music concert by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra

A flute brightens Mendelssohn’s piano trio with its clear tones. Mendelssohn originally composed the trio for the traditional trio of violin, cello and piano. To boost sales of his sheet music in the English market, however, he also adapted the violin part for the flute, which was popular among English music lovers in the mid-19th century. Erno Dohnányi’s sextet is music of great gestures and forms. Written for an unusual ensemble, the piece offers melodies that resonate with a wide range of emotions and in which each instrument gets a chance to shine.
