Introduction

The orchestra performs in a chamber music setting, without a conductor and with a program of two serenades.

While visiting Vienna in 1878, Dvořák heard such an enchanting performance of Mozart's serenade for wind instruments that when he returned home he was inspired to compose his own serenade in just two weeks. Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s romantic Serenade for Strings will be led by the orchestra’s concertmaster Pekka Kauppinen.
