Johan Svendsen as guest conductor
Historia
Johan Svendsen, a Norwegian, conducted two concerts of his works in Helsinki in April 1886. Kajanus and Svendsen were friends, so the orchestra was of course that of the Orchestra Association. Among the items on the programme were two of his symphonies, his Norwegian Rhapsodies for Violin No. 2 & 3, and the Romance for Violin that was of course familiar to the Helsinki audience from the visit a few years earlier by the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe.
