Autumn concert tickets are on sale now
The new concert season kicks off in September with an opening concert in which the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra will be led by three conductors at the same time.
The Hymn for Orchestra opening concert on Friday 6 September features three conductors: Chief Conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Principal Guest Conductor Pekka Kuusisto and Samy Moussa, Composer-in-Residence for the 2024–2025 season. The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra will present the first performance in Finland of Samy Moussa’s Adgilis Deda – Hymn for Orchestra and Daníel Bjarnason’s From Space I Saw Earth, which will be conducted by all three members of the orchestra’s Artistic Leadership Team. In addition to the previously announced programme, soprano Aphrodite Patoulidou will open the concert together with Pekka Kuusisto. They will perform Kaija Saariaho’s duo Changing Light for soprano and violin. The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 conducted by Chief Conductor Saraste.
The orchestra’s daytime Matinee concerts will continue also this concert season. These hour-long concerts without intermissions will be performed on Fridays at 12noon and 7pm. The programme for Friday 20 September features Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral and Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique. These concerts will be conducted by Tomas Djupsjöbacka.
Other guest conductors this autumn include Chief Conductor Emeritus Susanna Mälkki, Simon Crawford-Phillips, Anna-Maria Helsing, Kristian Sallinen and Nathalie Stutzmann. The season culminates with Haydn’s The Creation conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock.
Guest soloists during the season include pianist Yefim Bronfman, violinist Karen Gomyo, cellist Senja Rummukainen, baritone Christian Gerhaher and pianist Nelson Goerner, who will also travel with the orchestra as soloist on a tour of Spain on 10–15 November. Other soloists during the tour will be violinist Jan Söderblom and flautist Niamh McKenna from the orchestra’s own ranks.
Other soloists from the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform during the autumn season, as the programme includes Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds. This piece will be performed without a conductor as part of the orchestra’s hometown tour. These Hometown Orchestra concerts will take place at Vuotalo, Paavalinkirkko and Musiikkitalo on 29 October – 1 November.
